Our article takes you on a journey across to a piece of paradise on Turkey’s Aegean coast, Didim. Turkish Home Office  reveal all about this popular property hotspot.

Where is it?

Didim is located on the western Aegean coastline of Turkey, sitting south of the large city of Izmir and north of the popular cosmopolitan peninsula of Bodrum.

A district in the province of Aydin, and a very popular holiday destination with several sub-districts with its most popular destination for holidays being Altinkum, especially amongst British tourists, with many of its visitors returning year after year, closely followed by Yesilkent, Mavisehir and Akbuk which are also popular with Turkish tourists.Altinkum means ‘golden sands’ and with its white sand beached sloping in to the sea it’s easy to see where it got its name.

How do you get there?

The best airport to use is Bodrum of which the transfer time is roughly an hour. This mainly operates for international flights during summer only, so in winter most expats revert to using Izmir airport that is a 2-hour transfer. Other than that, Dalaman airport in the Mugla region is a three and half hour transfer.

What is Didim like?

Since 2000 many Brits and Europeans have bought properties in Didim/Altinkum lured by the affordable price tags, superb beaches, entertainment options and laid back lifestyle

Didim town has a good mix of modern amenities, ex-pat bars, international restaurants and facilities sat alongside Turkish lokantas (restaurants), street side kebab stalls and mini-markets. It’s easy for a foreigner to live in Didim. Didim also homes the fabulous $50 million Didim D-Marin Marina, opened in 2009 with berths for all manner of boats and yachts (8m-50m), dry docks, a shopping mall, fancy restaurants and a yacht club. This has attracted the sailors and yacht owners to buy up properties in the region and pused tourism in the area considerably.

Lifestyle – slow and cosmopolitan

Blending happily alongside the local Turkish residents are families from all over Europe and beyond. This also includes a strong British presence. Everyone here enjoys the simple tastes and pace of life, a refreshing change from busy lifestyles. The weather is glorious all summer and even in the winter months is a pleasant 15 degrees. The cost of living remains extremely low, making it very attractive to reside here.
